Introduction – Rouge Fairways Community
Rouge Fairways, located in Southeast Markham, Ontario, is an upscale-planned community comprising large-single detached homes inhabited by established families. The community is very family-oriented, and homeownership is high, with 95% owners and only 5% of renters.
Location
The area is bounded by Highway 14th Avenue in the north, the Rouge River in the east, Remington Parkview Golf Course in the South and Markham Road in the west. This community is small and well established. Rouge River Valley cuts through the community, and on the other side of Rouge Fairways is Box Grove, located on 14th Avenue and Boxwood.
The Golf Courses

Backdating to 1950, Markham Green Golf Club was first known as the exclusive Box Grove Golf Club. Rouge Fairways northern boundary runs adjacent to the Box Grove Golf Club, which forms part of the Rouge River Valley. The owners sold the course to IBM in 1967. In 1992, the new owners redesigned the property and renamed it. The other golf club located to the south of the area is Remington Parkview Golf Course. This club has two courses to choose from, and one has a creek crossing. It is popular with Torontonians as it is a mere 30mins easy drive from downtown.
Transport & Commuting

Rouge Fairways boasts good transportation links via York Region Transit (YRT) bus services. There are also railways tracks for freight trains, but no train stations for passenger services. The nearest station is Unionville GO, a 10min drive and 25mins for cyclists. The neighbourhood is mainly car-dependent as the local roads make commuting easy, although more residents are cycling lately!
Parks and Recreation

There are some great parks:
- Rouge Park – A national urban park centred around the Rouge River that extends south of Steeles Avenue.
- Fairtree Pond – An open green space for walking – perhaps not as dramatic as the Rouge Valley!
- Tomlinson Park – This park has a kids play area and a sports field.
- Cedarwood Splash Park – a large splash pad that is very popular with residents
There is also a cricket ground, ‘Fairtree Cricket Ground’, one of three cricket grounds in Markham and managed by the Markham Cricket Association.
Rouge Fairways Community – Homes

The neighbourhood mainly comprises detached homes between three to five bedrooms with an average of at least 2000 square feet per home. The central towns in Rouge Fairways are new builds of properties with three to four bedrooms and at least 1500 square feet with single car garages.
