Introduction

Location of Legacy Community

Legacy is located south of 407 Highway, and north of 14th Avenue. It is bounded on the west by the Rouge River, and on the east by Box Grove By-pass. The community is considered a more recent extension of the more historic Box Grove neighbourhood and is a vibrant community that comprises mid to upper-income families.
The Homes

The neighbourhood features large single-family detached homes. In fact, homes usually comprise 3-4 bedroom homes alongside a few bungalows sprinkled throughout. Homes are typically owner-occupied in the neighbourhood, consequently, pride of ownership is evident.
The Legacy Community Ratepayers Association has an active membership and hosts an Annual General Meeting. Chiefly, they bring issues to the City of Markham for its members and organize community events. The Association has a dedicated Youth Committee and concerns itself with issues such as safety, and the upkeep of the area’s parks, lights and signs.
Transport & Commuting

The nearest GO station to Legacy is Markham GO station which is approximately a 10-minute drive or an 18-minute bike ride. Alternatively, it is a 35-minute bus ride. However, most of the community travels around by car with a small percentage of people who walk, cycle or use public transport.
Parks & Recreation in Legacy Community

Legacy borders a popular golf course – Markham Green Golf Club. The club opened its course in 1940, and measures around 3000 yards for longer tees. The course is maintained by Angus Glen Golf Club. For more information, see our Golf Courses blog.
The golf course is also the location of the Rouge River Community Centre. The centre’s amenities include an outdoor pool and a poolside lounge. Both the community centre and the golf course can be hired for community events, weddings, concerts and performances. In addition, the centre has an outdoor pool and a poolside lounge.
Through the golf course lies the Forest Hill Trail which is very popular for nature walks.
Legacy Park is located centrally in the neighbourhood on Legacy Drive. It has a baseball diamond, a basketball court, large open green spaces, trees for shade and a children’s playground.
Shopping

The Boxgrove Centre is a plaza within walking distance of the neighbourhood. The plaza has some restaurant options, some local businesses, a gym, a grocery store, banks, pharmacy and a medical centre.
Schools in Legacy Community

Conclusion

The Legacy community is one of the best neighbourhoods in Markham for families. Crime rates are very low, making it a very safe community, the community association is very active and there are events held annually for residents. There is a school, walkable amenities and a lovely large park. It is no wonder people love living in Legacy!
