Patrick Hewan is a rising star in the Toronto Jazz scene whose energetic, virtuosic playing captivates and moves his audiences. Drawing on the vast vocabulary of the legendary jazz pianists who came before him and his Jamaican background, he adds his own spirit and passion to create a unique sound and style. Influenced by artists such as: Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett, Hiromi Uehara, Oscar Peterson, and Phineas Newborn while studying under the tutelage of legendary pianists such as Mark Eisenman, Brian Dickinson, Richard Whiteman, Robi Botos, and Hilario Duran it’s no secret where Patrick developed his unique, high-octane style that clearly adheres to the art forms tradition.

Thursday Night at the Bandstand - Elton Rohn

Each week three unique performers will set up along Main Street Markham between 6:00pm – 9:00pm.
Walk the street and listen for the artists to discover where they are playing.

Casa de Laz Musika - Markham - Aug 9th - 8pm

A weekly event each Wednesday at Laz Authentic Cuisine on Main Street Markham bringing you a rotation of dj’s offering the best in batchata, salsa, kizomba and other latin hits.

Due to venue space capacity is limited so please come early.

Doors open at 7pm for dinner and drinks (main floor and patio) with latin music in the background and dancing (upper level) starts at 8pm. The kitchen will close at 10:30pm.

H.E.A.L York Region - Markham Wesley Centre - until Dec 5th

Health Empowerment & Arts Leverage is a specialized arts-based program to explore youth voice and build resiliency and wellness. Throughout the duration of the program, participants ages 13 to 29 will receive ongoing support and positive mentorship from artists and facilitators. Youth are guided through weekly workshops to unpack experiences and create original songs, poems and pieces as a way to learn and grow towards wellness through creativity.

This program is free and is hosted in a safe space with trained trauma-informed arts facilitators. This project will be hosted in South Markham, though youth from all York Region communities are welcomed. Participants do not need any previous artistic experiences to join the workshops. Activities will happen in-person and participants will work on safely exploring self-expression and healing through the form of visual arts, spoken word, slam poetry and music.

Stouffville Ribfest - Memorial Park - Aug 10th - 13th

Join us as we transform Memorial Park into our biggest festival of the Summer – Stouffville Ribfest! Celebrate the BEST summer has to offer with a three-day festival that features award winning ribs, local breweries, a variety of food trucks, a kids zone and highly anticipated entertainment all weekend long! There will be a variety of other food and non-food vendors on site, including many new ones to go along with all of the old favourites. 

The festival is set to kick off with Canadian country music singer and songwriter, Ben Hudson, known for his heartfelt lyrics. Joining him on Friday night will be the talented Alessia Cohle, who is putting her own stamp on the country music scene. On Saturday, August 12, the renowned Shawn Desman, a Canadian icon and JUNO Award winner, will captivate the audience with his platinum-selling hits. Opening for Shawn Desman is the sensational Alyssa Reid, whose debut single “Alone Again” soared to the top of the charts. Throughout the festival, attendees will also be treated to performances by Alexa Goldie, the Motown Boys, and Matt Wilson, a Top 20 contestant from American Idol.

All Night Lawn - Stouffville Lawn Bowling Club
Aug 11th - 6.30pm

All Night Lawn | Lawn Bowling Nights are being organized by the Office of Mayor Iain Lovatt in support of the Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation.

Events are scheduled for the 2nd Friday of the month from June through August at the Stouffville Lawn Bowling Club. Start time is 6:30 PM and each event will include a lesson, DJ, snacks and coaching. The evening will wrap up at 10:30 PM.

Pickering Food Truck Festival - Esplanade Park - Aug 11th - 13th

You’ll want to bring your friends and kids to Esplanade Park for some unbelievable food! We’re transforming the park to a foodie haven, jam-packed with a children’s village, beer garden and live entertainment stage. As always, admission is free and we’ll be beefing up the park with some good tunes.
