Freedom! – Flato Markham Theatre – Feb 2nd – 8pm

There is an endless list of exceptional Black musicians who have been lost to history while their white counterparts gained fame. From church hymnals to the blues, from jazz to rock ’n’ roll, R&B and rap, we owe much of our musical history to Black culture, and it’s time to give credit where it is due. Freedom! was a huge success in last summer’s Stratford Festival Cabaret Series, featuring a company of ten superb Black performers and musicians.

Regenerating Our Future for People and Planet with Joe Brewer – Cornell Community Centre – Feb 3rd – 6.30pm

“Regenerative design can bring a river back to life. It can restore the health and vitality of an individual and their family. It can transform grief and trauma into vital pathways of healing for people, community, and ecosystems. Combining Indigenous lifeways with the best scientific knowledge about human behaviour, cultural evolution, and the dynamic Earth, a path can be made by walking it throughout the rest of this century and beyond.” Joe Brewer
We need a new way to understand current local and global challenges – from protecting the Greenbelt and soil health to addressing water and food security. You’ll also learn how we can bring generations together to design a pathway toward a better future, including sustainability, integrated land stewardship, and making a difference in your community in a way that supports the Greater Tkaronto Bioregion (GTB). Tkaronto is the Indigenous origin of Toronto.
Joe Brewer is a transdisciplinary scholar with a background in both earth sciences and cognitive sciences. He’s an inspiring speaker and leading-edge complexity thinker. He’s currently doing on-the-ground regeneration work in a 500,000 ha bioregion around Barichara, Colombia, and helping to create a global bioregional network. He is founder of the Design Institute for Regenerating Earth and author of The Design Pathway for Regenerating Earth.
