Turtle Tally Webinar – July 26th – 1.30pm

Ontario’s native turtle species face a variety of conservation challenges, especially in urban areas. While ecologists are doing their best to help, there is still much to learn about this cryptic species, and community scientists are at the forefront of these efforts.
We’ll discuss the threats to Ontario’s turtles, the creative strategies conservationists are using to support turtles, and what you can do as community scientists to help at-risk turtles!
This event is intended for Ages 6+:
– Beginner level information
– Activities and concepts that are friendly for all ages
– Intended audience includes children, youth, and adults

Bubble Tea Comedy Show at the Yes Cafe – July 23rd – 7.30pm

With his surreal observations and quick one-liners, Ernie has been entertaining audiences since 2008, starting at the world-famous Yuk Yuk’s comedy club in Toronto. Since then he has performed in clubs such as Absolute Comedy, The Rivoli, The Second City, Yuk Yuk’s, The Corner Comedy Club, Montreal’s ComedyWorks, and more recently, various comedy clubs in Los Angeles, Laughs Unlimited in Sacramento, Catch a Rising Star (comedy clubs) in Reno, and Levity Live in New York City. In 2009, Ernie was a top 5 finalist in the Russell Peters’s BFF comedy contest. Then in 2010, he performed at Kenny Robinson (comedian)’s prestigious Nubian Disciples Show at Yuk Yuk’s Toronto. Ernie is looking forward to performing in front of audiences all across Canada, and then the world.

Spiked Summer Festival 2022 – July 22nd – 24th – Vaughan

Barn & Butter – Pickering Museum Village – Saturday 23rd

Turn cream into butter in this fun program all about the farm. Make your own batch of butter, sample on a scone or take home and taste. Explore the museum’s new interactive barn exhibit as part of the program. Milk a replica cow, learn about crops, and groom a display horse.
Fun for adults and kids alike, this interactive program is perfect for families, friends, or even for date night!
This is a 45-minute program followed by exploring the Combination Barn exhibit. One ticket is required for each person attending (not required for infants). Please note, that this is not a drop-off program.

Get Cooking Markham: Siu Mai – Online event – July 26th – 6pm

Join Mary from Mary’s Happy Belly for a virtual cook-a-long and learn how to make siu mai. To join us, check out Mary’s siu mai recipe for a list of ingredients and equipment you will need to get cooking. For a veggie option, please see this recipe. Participants are encouraged to turn on their cameras and cook alongside Mary and the rest of Markham. Let’s make something delicious together!
Mary is the founder of her food blog, Mary’s Happy Belly (https://maryshappybelly.com/), and is also a TV host/personality teaching Cantonese cuisine on Gusto TV’s ‘One World Kitchen’, and has appeared on daytime shows such as CTV Your Morning and The Social. Mary has developed recipes for several international brands and has taught many virtual and in-person classes. She lives in Markham with her husband and two children and is a proud supporter of the Markham Public Library and its programs.

Music on the Street is a live busking style performance where local emerging and established artists get an opportunity to interact with their audience while allowing them a glimpse into their style of music. Open hours for anyone to drop by our community bicycle hub at:
Centennial Community Centre on July 23rd – 10am – 2pm and
Milliken Mills Community Centre on July 26th – 2.30pm – 6.30pm
Learn how to fix your bike with help from our friendly staff and volunteer mechanics at no cost using our tools. Or borrow a bike and accessories for free using your Markham Public Library card.
Services are at a first-come-first-serve basis. Participants may experience long wait times during peak periods.
