Carnival of the Arts - Ada Mackenzie Park - June 24th

Carnival of the Arts is a dance festival produced by Zoe Kwan that aims to immerse individuals in an afternoon of arts.  The festival will open with a music workshop followed by the exciting premiere performance of four original works that have been created specifically for this project.This site-specific dance festival will be taking place at Ada Mackenzie Park in Thornhill, ON on Saturday, June 24, with two performances at noon and 6 p.m. and Sunday, June 25 at 1 p.m. as the alternative rain date. There is no entrance fee, so stop by, enjoy, and support local artists!

Taste of Asia 2023 - Kennedy & Steeles Markham -
June 23rd, 24th & 25th

Each summer, Markham sees the coming together of dazzling cultural performances, culinary artists, iconic celebrities, dignitaries, sports fans, artisans, and food connoisseurs.

First introduced in 2003, the Taste of Asia festival provided a platform for the community to promote the multicultural mosaic of Canada and create harmony among various cultural groups through an event that fostered mutual respect and cooperation.

This year’s event will fill the streets with three days of non-stop multicultural performances for families and friends.

Stouffville Music in the Park - Memorial Park Stouffville - June 23rd - 5pm

Formerly Food Truck Frenzy, Music in the Park is a free event that celebrates summer with live musical performances on stage in Memorial Park along with great food! This year’s event will be headlined by Juno-Nominated Singer/Songwriter Aysanabee and will also spotlight music from Caribbean Sounds Steel Pan Music Trio.

We’ll be jammin’ to a curated playlist by our MDA community and resident DJ, Dj KC Decker (@itsdjkcdecker). There will be a themed photobooth with props, and we invite your pup and you to dress up and take photos with your friends in the community.

Stepanova Ballet Academy presents: Coppelia
Flato Markham Theatre - June 22nd - 7pm

This enchanting story has long remained one of the jewels of the classical ballet repertoire, as it represents one of the few true comedies of ballet. Set in a charming, old-world village, Coppelia tells the story of a young man named Franz who falls in love with a life-size mechanical doll, created by the eccentric inventor Dr. Coppelius. Hilarity ensues as the townspeople, including Franz’s girlfriend Swanhilda, try to unravel the secrets of the mysterious doll and her maker.

Performed by dancers of Stepanova Ballet Academy, one of the top ballet schools in Canada, this production of Coppelia is a true showcase of the finest young talent in Canadian ballet. Led by artistic director Tatiana Stepanova, Peoples Artist of Ukraine and Prima Ballerina, our dancers bring a unique energy, style, and skill to their performances, making them truly unforgettable to watch.

National Remembrance of the 100th Anniversary of the Enactment of the Chinese Exclusion Act in Canada - Online Stream from the Senate of Canada Chamber - June 23rd - 3pm

On June 23, 2023, the Honourable Senator Yuen Pau Woo, the Honourable Senator Victor Oh and Action! Chinese Canadians Together (ACCT) Foundation will be hosting a National Remembrance event in the Senate of Canada Chamber on the 100th anniversary of the enactment of the Chinese Exclusion Act in Canada.

This event is an opportunity to recognize the longstanding relationship between Chinese Canadians and Indigenous Peoples in Canada, to enhance a sense of pride and belonging, and to take action against racism.

Recognizing the significance of this event, we wish to invite you to participate in this event through our livestream from the Senate of Canada building.

Ways to participate:

  • You may wish to host a live stream party in your community centre and invite members of your community to watch it.
  • You may wish to host a live stream party, inviting your friends and family to watch it together with you!
  • For educators and teachers, you may want to use this as an opportunity to explain to your students about the Act, we encourage you to rent a space so you can livestream this event. Educational materials will be made available on our website.

Kindred Spirits Orchestra presents: A Scottish Fantasy Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts
June 23rd - 8pm

Dance-like themes and lyrical folk melodies dominate Prokofiev’s Russian Overture – a charismatic miniature symphony for a zealous large-scale orchestra. American violinist Andrew Sords masterfully interprets boisterous reels and tuneful airs in the charming Scottish Fantasy by Max Bruch. Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 7 is a memoir of fantasy and imagination, encompassing the composer’s life in his final farewell to symphonic form.

Cineplex Family Favourites - Mummies - Cineplex Markham & VIP - June 24th - 11am

The most beloved Bear is coming to Uxbridge on June 24th & 25th!  You are invited to come for a ride through the hundred-acre Oak Ridges Moraine onboard our historical train, and meet Winnie and friends. During your journey enjoy an eye spy on board for some of pooh’s favourite items. Activities such as a bouncy castles, mini putt, and so many other activities are there for all to enjoy on site, before or after your trip. Tokens can be purchased for games and food. Connecting the Community Explore the Community - Museum of the Streets - Village of Richmond Hill - June 21st - 7pm

To enjoy each others company, to celebrate the summer solstice and to learn some of the history of our community we will go for a leisurely walk along Yonge Street in the Village Core.

We’ll start in front of Covernotes and end there. Hopefully some of us will sit and have a chat.

There are a number of plaques that we may have not paid attention to.
