Markham Cycling Day - June 11th - 8am - 1pm

Markham Cycling Day - Whats on in Markham June 8 - 14th

We are back in-person this year! Markham Cycling Day is York Region’s largest FREE public cycling event. The event offers a safe, fun and educational experience that engages the community and enables participants to develop or enhance their passion for cycling.

This year, we have a *NEW LOCATION* at Markham Centre, 10 Aviva Way (Birchmount Road & Enterprise Boulevard).

The event will include:

  • The Children’s Bike Races are crowd favourite each and every year! Children and youth ages 3-10 engage in a friendly race to win a gold, silver or bronze medal. Taking place at the Markham Centre, young racers will ride in a safe and closed-off area.
  • The Tour de Markham, comprising of 12km, 30km, and 60 km group rides across the City taking participants on different cycling infrastructure and interesting landmarks along the way.

This event is opened to the community. It includes entertainment, snacks, cycling information and so much more!

So...You Want to Write a Book Worskhop - What’s on in Markham - June 8th - 14th

Greetings Markham and York Region friends and colleagues!

Please join published authors, Laura Connor and Suzen Fromstein, at our inaugural “So…You Want to Write a Book” workshop.

The workshop takes place from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday June 10/23 at the Markham Train Station. Early bird pricing is in effect until May 8th. Light refreshments will be served.

The learning sessions, moderated author panel, and working groups make this the first of its kind event in York Region and has been designed to appeal to first- time authors.

Art in the Park is an outdoor art show and sale that has been running annually in Stouffville since 2015 is a celebration of art and culture for our community.

Join us in Memorial Park to celebrate arts and culture at this annual art show and sale. Enjoy the sounds of talented and diverse entertainment while you wander the park to revel in the talent of artists from across Southern Ontario.

In addition to the diverse group of artists showcasing their talents through a variety of mediums, the town’s cultural facilities also take part by highlighting their services and providing crafts and activities to the families attending.

Fostering Creativity and Empowering Youth: Ripple Foundation Presents ‘Express Inspire Connect’ Conference

Ripple Foundation, a Canada-wide educational charity dedicated to creative literacy and empowering youth, is unveiling its second annual youth conference, ‘Express Inspire Connect,’ taking place on Sunday, June 11, from 12:00 PM to 4:15 PM EST.

The youth-organized, 100% donation powered, and volunteer-run virtual event aims to provide an engaging platform for students in grades eight to 12 to explore youth-led activism, personal growth, and the transformative power of education.

“We are excited to bring back the ‘Express Inspire Connect’ youth conference,” said Ivy Wong, Founder of Ripple Foundation. “This event embodies our commitment to fostering the next generation of leaders and change-makers. By providing a platform for young voices to be heard, we hope to inspire and empower them to create positive change in their communities.”

The conference will be held online and will inspire young individuals by addressing relevant issues impacting their peers. Through a thoughtfully curated program, participants will have the opportunity to gain valuable insights, connect with like-minded individuals, and discover their potential as agents of change.

“The conference seeks to play a vital role in youth-led activism, empowering young change-makers through insightful discussions and creative thinking around relevant social issues. Our aim is to inspire and equip the next generation of leaders to make a meaningful impact in their communities,” said Maddux Ma, Youth Events Team Lead at Ripple Foundation.

The conference will kick off with an engaging session on global issues in Youth Literature Workshop, highlighting the transformative power of literature. The centerpiece of the event will have three exceptional student speakers (Hanna Grover from Southridge School in British Columbia, Erica Li from St. Robert Catholic High School Toronto, and Isabella Wen from RE Mountain Secondary School Langley) tackle topics such as education as a fundamental right, cultivating healthy mindsets, and advocating for equal opportunities. The event also features a Youth Organization Fair, providing a platform for active participation and inspiring attendees to make a difference in their communities. The conference will wrap up with closing remarks and an exciting prize draw, offering attendees the chance to win prizes from our prize contributors – The Walrus, Penguin Random House, and Cineplex.

Scarborough Village Theatre presents: TIme After Time - June 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 15th & 16th

Jack the Ripper steals H.G. Wells’ Time Machine to escape from 1893 into the future. Wells pursues him to bring him back to London and justice. Jump forward to San Francisco in 1980, where Wells meets Amy, a bored bank teller, who becomes an ally in his quest. This unusual mixture of sci-fi, gore, romance and, yes, comedy, was made into a 1979 movie featuring Malcolm McDowell and Mary Steenburgen.

Each nature-themed session will get you exploring the natural world that makes Downsview Park unique.

Here’s what to expect:

Each program is 90 minutes
All ages are welcome but those under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult
Activities will be flexible and reflective of the participants’ interests

Visit the museum for Canada’s Largest Military Show!

Aquino Tank Weekend is the largest and greatest historical military show in Canada. It is the Ontario Regiment RCAC Museum’s biggest annual event. There is nothing like it in the world.

HISTORY LIVES HERE!

Spanning over three very busy days (9,10,11 June 2023), Aquino Weekend is an event with action packed excitement for both families and history enthusiasts.

The Museum is known world wide for its extensive collection of operational historical vehicles and they are showcased in both static and dynamic displays over the weekend. They will roll out in demonstrations, battle re-enactments, and one-on-one tank battles! The battle re-enactments are second to none. They combine an intensive experience where artillery, infantry, and vehicles encounter each other. These scenarios are narrated and supported by explosions and gunfire (with blanks)!

There will be displays from Canadian Armed Forces units, partner Museums from all over Southern Ontario, a myriad of Historical Reenactors, other supporting organizations with similar interests (From Pipe and Drums to Radio Controlled Tanks), food trucks, beer garden, and our ever-popular Kids Zone.
