What's On in Markham Sept 28th - Oct 4th

This week we have a lot of events to choose from and most importantly the city event of the year – the Markham Fair! Hope to see you there! Scroll down to find out what’s in Markham Sept 28th – Oct 4th and have a great week!

Markham Fair - Markham Fairgrounds - Sept 28th - Oct 4th

Markham Fair occurs annually on the weekend before Thanksgiving, and hosts upwards of 60,000 attendees.

Approximately 3,000 exhibitors will enter more than 10,000 items, which will be judged and put on display during the fair.

Promoting excellence through competition in this way, is what makes fairs unique in comparison to other events. As well as the competitive displays of our fall harvest, the community is further brought together to enjoy various forms of entertainment such as horse pull, demolition derby, tractor pull, midway rides, livestock shows and displays of farm animals.

In 1996, facing the imminent handover of Hong Kong from Britain to China, the couple decided to immigrate to Canada. There, they successfully rebuilt their business making traditional Chinese cheongsam. Twenty years on, they’re ready to retire.  However, what of the skills that have been handed down in their family for three generations? This story takes us from Shanghai to Hong Kong and Canada, reflecting the history of the Chinese diaspora as well as the rise and fall of traditional craftsmanship.
