Flato Markham Theatre Presents Tom Cochrane – Sept 14th – 8pm

Over the course of a long and illustrious career, Tom Cochrane has had no trouble winning over hearts and minds. An iconic Canadian legend who started in the pubs, rough neck bars and coffeehouses of Ontario, Cochrane is characterized by creative adventurousness and musical integrity. Philadelphia’s Jerome Tucker is a lead vocalist and bassist who joined the US Navy, ending-up in the Gulf Coast and moonlighting for various Blues and Cajun artists. Following the Navy, he co-wrote songs with Ivan Neville, moved to Chicago and performed with the city’s greats. Today, Tucker calls Toronto home, playing with his own band: Carl Harvey (guitar), Unionville’s Rob Christian (sax, flute & keys), Kingsley Etienne (B3), Neil Brathwaite (sax) and Rich Greenspoon (drums). The result is a polished explosion of funky soulful blues that’s made them a true favourite on the local scene.

Thornhill Community Band Concert – Bandstand – Main St Unionville – 11th Sept – 5pm-6pm

The Thornhill Community Band was established in 1975 with the help of the well-known Toronto trumpeter, the late Ellis McClintock. The membership is of all ages and represents a cross-section of residents of not only Thornhill but of Vaughan, Markham, Richmond Hill, North York and other areas in the Greater Toronto Area. The Band plays a wide variety of music, ranging from classical to big band, marches, Broadway and popular pieces.

Welcome to our Markham Reads program series, where we are celebrating the winner of this year’s Markham Reads – Have You Eaten Yet? by Cheuk Kwan.
Join us for a lively evening full of questions, answers and conversation with Cheuk Kwan, the author of our Markham Reads 2022 selection, “Have You Eaten Yet?”
Cheuk Kwan grew up in Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan. His Chinese Restaurants television series brings together his diasporic experience and love of food and travel. This year’s Markham Reads book, Have You Eaten Yet?, draws out a global narrative of the Chinese diaspora by linking together personal stories from Chinese kitchens world-wide.

7th Running of The Don Meskis Go-Karting Fundraiser – Goodwood Kartways – Sept 11th

This is a fundraising go-karting event that is open to all skill levels.
This is a fundraising go-karting event that is open to anyone 18 and over who wants to have fun and support a great cause. Karts are capable of 75km/h.

We will divide the run groups according to skill. Everything from first-timers to former champions.
Don Meskis was a friend to many of us in and out of the motorsports community. He left us much too soon in 2014, and we are holding this ongoing series to help raise funds for his wife Tanya, and their son Eric.

Garden Tours – Aga Khan Park – Sept 11th & 14th

Join us on Sundays and Wednesdays for a 50-minute guided walking tour. Learn about the carefully chosen flowers and plants, the tranquil water features and the Persian-inspired formal gardens at Aga Khan Park.
