Markham Museum Outdoor Self Guided Tours

Markham Museum has reopened for self-guided tours of its 25-acre outdoor grounds. Take in the sights of the apple orchard, beautiful gardens and historic buildings. Unlock the stories behind the historic structures by scanning a QR code using your mobile phone. Markham Museum explores our community’s past and present through some of humanity’s oldest shared technologies – ceramics, textiles, metalworking and food production. Please note that at this time the interior of buildings and the exhibition galleries are not accessible, in accordance with their COVID-19 health and safety protocols.

TIFA Kids & the Toronto (Virtual) Festival of Authors – October 21st – 31st

Meet the creators of today’s leading books for young people and celebrate the power of stories. From picture books to podcasts, and superheroes to sad potatoes, TIFA proudly presents 30+ free virtual activities that explore stories of love, quests, friendship and family.
Events are kicked off on October 21st with Ruth Ohi reading her picture book ‘Choose Kindness’ featuring Bunny and friends as they work together to help each other throughout the day. Then get ready with pencil and paper and draw along as Ruth shows simple ways to create fun characters with a whole range of dynamic expressions and movements.

Creepy Halloween Fun at the Village – October 23rd

Something is not quite right at Black Creek Pioneer Village! Can you figure out what it could be? Play games, visit farm animals, listen to ghost stories around a campfire, and solve clues in a fun-filled scavenger hunt to uncover the mystery! On this family-friendly interactive tour you will visit historic buildings along the Village’s main street, play spooktacular games outdoors — and, of course, enjoy a visit to the barnyard! Adventures at the Boo-seum – October 24th – 11am-3pm

Looking for a spook-tacular time? The 3rd annual ‘Adventures at the Boo-seum’ at the Scugog Shores Museum Village is a great way to celebrate the season with your family! With games, crafts, costume parade, trick or treating, the haunted Lee House and stories this is a fun filled day!

Aurora’s Haunted Greenhouse – from October 23rd – various times

Throughout the year, Aurora’s greenhouses grow some of the most beautiful plants and flowers seen throughout the community, but come October 1, the greenhouse starts to transform into a totally different experience.
You and your whole family can enjoy the thrills and chills of Halloween in a safe environment with the appropriate COVID-19 protocols in place. Have a spooktacular time weaving your way through three haunted greenhouses to end up on a trail of fang-tastic Halloween huts!!
New this year, don’t miss the Trick or Trunk alleyway full of decorated vehicle trunks. The community is invited to join in this new part of the event where participants can open their trunk and pull out random decorations to create a cool display. Vehicles will be set up in the “Treat Street” section of the Joint Operations Centre parking lot. To participate in the decorated trunks, please email [email protected] by Monday, October 18. All entries will be eligible to win prizes based on votes from the public.
