Markham Reads: In Converstation with Angeline Boulley – Aug 26th – 7pm

Angeline Boulley will be joining Markham Public Library for an evening of conversation about her New York Times Bestseller, “Firekeeper’s Daughter.” Angeline will do a brief reading of the novel and talk about her writing journey. Angeline Boulley, an enrolled member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, is a storyteller who writes about her Ojibwe community in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. She is a former Director of the Office of Indian Education at the U.S. Department of Education. Angeline lives in southwest Michigan, but her home will always be on Sugar Island. Firekeeper’s Daughter is her debut novel, and was an instant #1 NYT Bestseller.

Kidz Summer Cooking Series: Food From Around the World – Aug 27th – 10.30am

Get your kids excited about food and involved in the kitchen with Registered Dietitians Sarah Jean-Noel & Emilia Heiman for fun, online cooking classes. Kids will explore flavours from around the World and, build cooking skills by preparing 3 fun and delicious recipes in the kitchen during the session. This session is centred on Asian Summer Cooking and is for kids aged 7 – 12yrs but all ages are welcome!

The Tune Concert – Wandering Melodic Road – Aug 28th – 7pm

TAIWANfest brings a new flavour of Korean music to Toronto audiences looking to explore genres beyond K-pop. Contemporary group The Tune’s virtual concert called “Wandering Melodic Road” will be a showcase of traditional beats, instruments, attire, and an overall love for expressing oneself through melody and rhythm.
The Tune is an all-female music group. Unlike other pop music groups, they use traditional Korean instruments such as percussion, strings, wind instruments along with modern keyboards to create new Asian music fusion between the traditional and modern. This is a good opportunity to learn about traditional Korean music in an interesting and relaxing way.

Afro-Carib Fest – Aug 28th 12pm – 6pm

We are excited to announce the 10th Annual Afro-Carib Fest (ACF). The first of its kind that merges and celebrates African and Caribbean culture in Canada!

Seeing Starlight with the James Webb Telescope – Aug 28th – 12pm

Mad Science is proudly hosting a FREE, live online event with special guest Dr Quyen Hart, an astrophysicist and Senior Education and Outreach Scientist at the Space Telescope Science Institute. In this 1-hour event, children between the ages of 5-12 years old will be inspired by and ask questions about stars, space and galaxies to Dr Hart.

Before the event, participate in our Space challenge! Space telescopes allow us to see stars and galaxies far across the universe. In addition to many other new discoveries, the Webb Space Telescope will capture infrared light from the first galaxies forming in the early universe. We have never seen this before.
