Markham’s Canada Day Virtual Celebrations – July 1st

This year, the City of Markham acknowledges the need to balance the significance of marking Canada Day with being sensitive to the challenging times faced by our community. Markham’s Canada Day schedule of July 1 virtual activities:
- Watch the new Canada Day in Markham Celebration video with greetings from key City and Community members and pictures from past celebrations
- Download and have fun this summer with Markham’s Canada Day-themed activity ‘Fun Kit’ for families
- Engage with the National Canada Day celebrations from Ottawa

Tim Hortons Canada Day Virtual Fireworks – July 1st – 10pm
Augmented reality experience for mobile devices (smartphones and tablets only)
At 10 pm, local time, point your smartphone or tablet to the night sky and a 3-minute show displaying 3D fireworks will begin. The augmented reality experience will give you the same visual and sound effects as a real fireworks display! Or watch it all on video on your desktop or laptop computer. Image capture will also be available for you to share with family and friends.

Brooks Farm Junior Farmers Festival – Sat/Sun through July & August

The festival provides children with the opportunity to embark on an exclusive, interactive hands-on learning experience to explore the importance of farming, the cycle of farming, and where our food comes from. With a child-sized village featuring a harvesting field, a farm, a farm market terminal, and a farm home will provide children with an inspirational, fun, and realistic role-playing experience as a farmer. Each day, features special performers who will provide a 30-45min outdoor appearance for the children. Children will participate in a hands-on sunflower planting activity that they will be able to take home and continue to watch grow. All children participating will receive a free freezie!

Earthbound Kids Summer Camps

Earthbound Kids offers Summer Day Camp programs for kids 4 to 12 years of age. The popular Saddle Club program for kids 6-12 years is a great opportunity for kids to learn to ride and care for horses, more experienced young riders have a chance to improve their skills while everyone has fun with friends in the fresh outdoors. The Treetop multi-activity outdoor camp is a well rounded experience. Kids learn and explore as they play with bugs, grow food, get messy and have fun doing all the things they love to do including horseback riding, swimming, sports, archery, outdoor education and more! Activities and programs are designed around 4 age groups: Seedlings (4-5 yrs), Explorers(6-7 yrs), Rangers (8-9 yrs) and Trailblazers (10-12 yrs). Also, they have a Good Sports Camp – a multi-sport program for ages 6 to 12 yrs includes a variety of sports daily like soccer, floorball, basketball, climbing, beach volleyball, and BMX riding. Available for two age groups – Good Sports Junior for 6 to 7 years and Good Sports Senior for 8 to 12 years.

Conserving the Buzz Webinar – July 6th – 12pm

Bumble bees are important insect pollinators, and can be found in habitats like meadows, grasslands, wetlands, forests and farms. Unfortunately, some species that were once extremely common in the Greater Toronto Area are becoming increasingly difficult to find. Learn about Wildlife Preservation Canada’s Native Pollinator Initiative, and how they are saving bumble bee species at risk. Find out how you can help support their conservation efforts through projects like Bumble Bee Watch. Intended for ages 6+ up to adult, beginner level information. Via Zoom

Drive’N’Drag – Tea Party in Wonderland – July 2nd & July 3rd

Drive N’ Drag presents Teaparty in Wonderland: a 90-minute drive-in drag show split into two acts featuring fan favourite BOA from Canada’s Drag Race with a stellar cast of Toronto Drag Artists at the Guildwood GO Station Main Lot. Teaparty in Wonderland hosted by BOA as The Mad Hatter takes the drive-in audience on a fun-filled journey into the fabulous world of Wonderland, while spilling tea along the way. The show features an exciting and diverse group of Toronto Headlining Drag Performers including The Ugly One, Manny Dingo, Luna Dubois, Tash Riot and Tiffany Boxx as your favourite characters from the beloved Alice in Wonderland. Haunted Ghost Walks Pickering Museum Village – July 3rd – 6pm

Take a guided walking tour of the historic village at night and hear stories from the past that still haunt us today. Learn about paranormal investigations that have found evidence of spirits and ghosts, and hear stories of past tragedies that actually took place in Pickering’s past. The program is 1 hour. There is a maximum of 9 people in the program.
